Reinventing health for your family in the 21st century

For a hands-on experiment:

 (1) find some peppermint leaves and crush them. Can you smell the aroma?  Ahh.

(2) Peel a lemon and orange; then grab the peels and bend the rind.  Again smell the aroma. Do you realize this is the essence of the essential oil of the plant?

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the essences or “heart” of the plant. These oils, the energy of the plants, are liquids that are extracted from the bark, leaves, petals, resins, rinds, stalks, roots or stems. Aromatic plants store oils in tiny pockets between cell walls. Messages to the plants flow through these liquid highways in much the same manner as hormones work in humans. The oils give life to the plant by protecting the plants from diseases and predators as well as promoting pollination.

Pure essential oils vary in color as well as aromas. Essential oils are also more concentrated than the entire dried herb. For example, it takes over 150 pounds of lavender flowers to make one pound of lavender oil. One tiny drop of peppermint oil is the equivalent of 28 cups of peppermint tea.

Essential oils are not the same as perfume oils. Many products add perfume oils that were created synthetically to smell like a certain fragrance. The perfume industry uses high pressure, high temperatures, rapid processing and chemicals to produce a larger quantity of oils from the plants at a lower cost. These may have great aromas, but have lost their therapeutic qualities.

It is vitally important that you use 100% pure oils.
